Manager of Predictive Algorithms

Balionis Group, Inc. is well known for providing engineers and technology people to a variety of high technology firms.  We provide direct placement as well as contract engineers.

We are currently looking for a Manager of Predictive Algorithms for a permanent position within our client base.  This position is permanent and is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

This position offers a huge opportunity for the right person.  Our client is in the Medical Device Industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the initiative that develops Predictive algorithm based solutions consistent with company strategy which aims to protect patients at risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
  • Lead a team of Software Engineers, Algorithm / Data Scientists, and Machine Learning Specialists, among others, in tracking progress, understanding dependencies, evaluating risks and communicating status throughout the organization. Engage and energize the project teams to achieve aggressive goals.
  • Lead cross-functional projects with R&D and across other departments. Interface with R&D team to estimate work breakdown structures, task duration, milestone definition and resource management
  • Proactively remove obstacles to drive progress. Manage issue escalations and provide support to teams balancing multiple competing priorities.
  • Understand technical consequences and propose viable alternatives.
  • Continually ask questions that clarify priorities and drive the development of highly effective and productive teams.
  • Participate in cross-functional strategic and business planning processes.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and continuously improve the organization by being a trusted advisor, facilitator and creative problem solver. Implement continuous improvements to the R&D organization and the algorithm development process.
  • Share development process frameworks, tools, and best practices that can be adopted throughout the organization.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships across the organization and within the product development functions including design quality, regulatory, engineering design, clinical development engineering, and product marketing.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high performing talent.

Educations and/or Experience:

  • Requires degree in computer engineering / computer science or related field with an emphasis on machine learning / predictive analytics.
  • S. or PhD preferred.
  • 10 years of Program/Project or software team (Algorithm development preferred) management experience in Product Development business environments (medical device industry preferred).
  • Strong technical aptitude and an ability to understand technical designs, challenges and risks.
  • Familiar with both waterfall and agile project management methodologies and able to apply when appropriate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated successful track record at delivering the right solutions as quickly as can be done right.
  • Ability to influence and motivate team members across a variety of functions inside and outside of the R&D organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multitask the daily tactics w/o losing sight of the long range strategies.
  • Bottom line Results oriented approach, Driven, Creative and proactive.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents of advanced technical complexity.  Ability to write reports and research findings of a technical nature.  Ability to speak and present effectively one-on-one as well as in small and large groups of professionals including customers, clients and collaborators, both inside and outside the organization.

Mathematical Skills:  Basic mathematical skills required, including the understanding and ability to apply basic statistical and arithmetic principles, work with tabular data, and create and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability:  Advanced reasoning skills required.  Must have the ability to solve complex problems and weigh possible solutions to determine rank options to deliver optimal outcomes.  Ability to assess problems involving several variables in changing situations.
